Bahrain National Theatre

Iraqi artist Hussain al-Adhamy was born in Baghdad’s Adhamiya district, an important centre of the Iraqi Maqam genre of music and song. Born to a family that has long practiced this deep-rooted heritage, he earned a high arts diploma in music and song from the Iraqi Institute of Musical Studies and his bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degrees in oriental and occidental musical sciences from the University of Baghdad and the Arab University of North America. He also received an honorary doctorate from the Association of Arabic Translators and Linguists in 2009. Over his illustrious career, which spans more than 45 years, Al-Adhamy brought the Iraqi Maqam genre to audiences in more than 70 countries and received numerous medals, awards and distinctions from festivals and artistic conferences.
